Eric’s most recent series, “Micro Landscapes - Small on a Large Scale”, takes what he loves from landscape photography and applies it to the micro world, exposing hidden structures within the compositions of different rocks and minerals.
Eric’s early work concentrated on landscape photography. Travelling across the country, he captured the grand vistas of mountains, lakes and rivers. In this project, Eric focuses more on macro (close-up) photography and revealing impactful landscapes within the minute details of rocks and minerals. He takes what is difficult to see with the naked eye and reveals it on a grand scale to present it to the viewer as he did with his landscape photographs.
With this series, Eric uses macro lenses and often a specialized focusing rail to help take multiple photographs each with different focal points. He then works with software to compile or stack the images together to increase the focal range of the final image.
To complete the transformation of these intricate micro landscapes into grand vistas, Eric prints the images up to 60 x 40 inches.
